With 20+ years of professional experience in the can, I usually describe myself as a sort of “high-end Swiss Army knife”, in that I can do a lot of different things. The “high-end” bit is in there because, unlike most general-purpose tools, I can actually do those things well.
Found my way to Elixir several years ago when a longtime client acquired a Phoenix app. Poked around with it, fell in love, and made the jump from Node and Ruby on Rails. Although I really enjoy doing front-end work (LiveView is pretty sweet!), back-end work probably has a slight edge. I love working with APIs and databases, and have done a lot of fun(!) integration work for clients, writing custom API clients and Ecto drivers.
That’s a very small slice of my “hard skills” pitch. As for soft skills, my peers and clients really appreciate my friendliness, positive attitude, work ethic, and focus on the best ideas (not just my own). For as much time as we spend working with others, it ought to be as enjoyable as possible!
Reach out with questions! I’m always happy to chat with like-minded people who might want to build neat things together.
