Backend-focused Elixir/Phoenix engineer turning messy business logic into clean, well-owned systems

I’m a backend-focused full-stack engineer with ~5 years in Elixir and Phoenix.

My Elixir story started at a utility management SaaS, where our team of five rebuilt a Node monolith into Elixir/Phoenix microservices talking over RabbitMQ with the expectation of the business scaling. I owned the Organisation module (hierarchical client/site structures, Phoenix PubSub, complex auth) and the Workforce module (real-time mobile sync for field teams), and co-designed the tariff engine that sat at the core of the product.

More recently I worked on a US property-management SaaS, contributing to a PMS-agnostic re-architecture built around a canonical Ecto schema model, building the transformation layer that made it work, integrating AWS Bedrock for AI-generated technician guidance, and extending Oban-based sync jobs running in production.

I also hold a first-class BSc (Honours) in Computer Science, completed part-time while working full-time, plus an earlier degree in Accounting and Law, which mostly shows up as a habit of reading business intent before I start building.

I like backend work with real state and concurrency problems to solve, but I’m just as happy in LiveView or React when the problem calls for it.
