I found my calling in software engineering in 2012 after a frustrated attempt at a career in academia. I have worked on centralized monoliths before focusing more specifically on Web and distributed systems starting in 2017, after moving to Estonia. I’m a curious person and I continuously look for ways of learning and applying. You could say that I am a worshiper at the altar of the Growth mindset.
I ran into Elixir in 2020 and it’s been hard to go back to any other technology. I like how it simplifies my mental model of the running application, so that I can focus on business impact rather than the language’s obscure corners.
During my career, I’ve worked on two main tracks – as an Individual Contributor and (for 2 years) as an Engineering Manager. I wanted to understand both sides of the equation so I could best contribute to the success of my team and I’ve found the experience highly rewarding. I’m currently looking for new challenges in different domains, where I can apply my “hybrid” mindset.
