Intro
Hello!
I’m an experienced SWE with 6+ years of Elixir experience and 3 years of industry experience looking for a new challenge. I love solving problems for people, especially when the solution involves programming in an elaborate domain. Elixir/OTP has become my tool of choice for most problem spaces.
I have experience in the insurance industry building features and optimizing an in-house underwriting web application, and most recently, an Internet infrastructure scanner. Both of these projects involved large Elixir codebases in a rich domain, and extensive usage of libraries like Oban, Phoenix, and LIveView
A little about me
I started programming over a decade ago at 11 years old, and discovered my passion for programming (and problem solving in general) since then. I started wanting to make video games (successfully making a few in Unity3D with C#), then moving to a more backend focus by writing webapps and Discord bots for friends and small gaming communities with Node.JS.
I stumbled upon Elixir in 2019, and started seriously picking it up for side-projects in 2020, and then professionally after in 2023. Since then I’ve grown very fond (or honestly obsessed) of Elixir and functional programming as a whole. Some of my other favorite functional languages are Elm, Gleam, Nix, and Erlang.
Outside of tech, I play piano, video games, and keep a couple of aquariums.
What I value
I love learning new things and take a lot of pride in my work. I strive to solve the real problems agitating stakeholders. I understand the value of taking the time to dive deeper to find the root problems before discovering on a technical solution.
I’m especially passionate about how a solution is implemented - I’m constantly learning how to write better software that resists bitrot and is maintainable for the long-haul. At the same time, I’m very comfortable prototyping and getting something workable up and running quickly. I value working on a team that shares a similar sentiment/pride in our work.
My professional development is important to me, and I value an engineering culture that facilitates growth through knowledge sharing (through code review, lunch-and-learns, etc.)
I’m an avid user and writer of OSS. I encourage you to check out my GitHub linked in my profile, as most of my side projects over the years can be found there.
