Software development is something I came into a bit later in life, which means that I’m both more and less experienced than a lot of my peers. I have more than a decade of experience in a fulfillment warehouse, where I set up and maintain the API integrations for our clients, and I spent 6 years in the US Army doing critical maintenance as a helicopter mechanic and crew chief. I’m currently earning a CS degree at Oregon State University.
I had planned to build a web app called Kestrel as a portfolio project because class assignments and ubiquitous “portfolio projects” aren’t interesting and I wanted to challenge myself. I was researching frameworks when I came across Elixir/Phoenix LiveView and was immediately intrigued. The more I learn about Elixir and LiveView, the more I know that this is the path I want to walk. My goal with Kestrel is to not only develop fluency with Elixir and LiveView, but also deepen my understanding of product design, with a focus on building a back end that results in a clean and thoughtful user experience.
I’m looking for a small team where I can grow quickly and deliver real value.
